IPv4 representations
An IPv4 address is a 32-bit number commonly shown as four decimal octets. Binary and hexadecimal views are useful for subnet calculations, protocol analysis and debugging.
IPv6 representations
IPv6 is a 128-bit hexadecimal address. Zero compression makes it easier to read, while the full eight-group representation is useful when calculating prefixes or reverse DNS names.
Reverse DNS notation
IPv4 PTR names use in-addr.arpa. IPv6 reverses each hexadecimal nibble under ip6.arpa.
